We set the lineup in huge type, saved the whole programme on the phone so it opens offline, and let fans build their own day in two taps.
A lineup you can read in a crowd
Kanda brings forty bands to a riverbank every summer. Fans love it. They did not love waving their phones in the air while the timetable loaded.
The problem
A festival field has thousands of people, one phone mast and a lot of sunshine on small screens. The old app was pretty, slow and impossible to read outdoors.
The process
We designed for sunshine, sweat and no signal.
Type you can read while dancing. Band names run big and bold, like a gig poster in your pocket.
Offline first. The whole programme downloads once, on the train, and never needs the internet again.
Your day, your list. Tap a band to add it, tap again to drop it, and the app tells you when to start walking.
The result
The app opened fine on day one with no signal at all, which was the whole point.
The most used button was the one that finds your friends, so next year it gets bigger.
Meanwhile, at the corner shop on our street...
Meanwhile, three stages and zero signal...
